Why Retreat?:

Open your Perspective. Tenderize your heart. Befriend your body.

More of an embrace than a retreat; a retreat with me is an invitation to adventure courageously inward as you are pulled gently open by the dazzling threads of conscious embodiment, mindful exploration, and heartfelt community.

You can’t hear your calling in a vacuum. Our purpose is understood in community.

- Cole Arthur Riley

Choosing to come on retreat means we must consciously choose to close down some of the pulls on our attention back home - and this allows us to open the door to a deeper relationship to embodiment and  spirit through yoga immersion, self inquiry, meditation, compassion, humor, and open-ended time and space in nature to feel it all.  The version of self that returns home is inevitably rearranged, awakened, and transformed by the experience of retreating. A retreat is unlike any other form of travel. Both travel and yoga are catalysts to shift perspective, open our life force where we feel blocked or stagnant or habituated, and realign with deeper meaning and direction in our lives.   The community and transformation fostered during retreat continuously astounds and deeply moves me. We are inevitably rearranged, awakened, brought into a more authentically embodied and spirited sense of self.

Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.

- BKS Iyengar

The name Sidemen is believed to originate from the phrase "Sidha Mahan," which means "a spiritual ability or supernatural power that can be attained." The term "Sidha" or “Siddhi" refers to spiritual abilities or supernatural powers, while "Mahan" implies something that can be acquired or blessed. Historically, Sidemen was considered a place where people sought spiritual or supernatural experiences through learning and meditation. This reputation persists, as Sidemen is known for having the highest concentration of priests and priestesses on the island of Bali. The serene and picturesque surroundings of Sidemen Village, away from the bustling development and nightlife of Ubud make it an ideal location for a peaceful retreat.

Located on the edge of the national park but just 45 minutes from the Marrakesh airport, our retreat center boasts magnificent panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains and the Ourika valley. Guests will experience the same oasis of understated luxury with rooms and suites that feature sumptuous textiles and authentic design touches focusing on using locally sourced natural materials and handicrafts.

Savor fresh Mountain air, gardens full of bird song, sunshine far away from the city and amazing star filled nights.

Most of the rooms have panoramic views ensuring that the natural beauty of the surroundings becomes an integral part of the overall experience.

With just 11 rooms split across 3 levels, with wide Mountains and Valley views throughout, we expect this retreat to sell out in a heartbeat.

It is essential sometimes to go into retreat, to stop everything that you have been doing, to stop your experiences completely and look at them anew, not keep on repeating them like machines. You would then let fresh air into your mind. Wouldn’t you?

FAQ

  • Mornings you will wake up your body with a dynamic vinyasa flow and afternoons you will melt into a deeply nourishing restorative or somatic practice.

Playful Morning Flow: Start your day with an athletic Vinyasa Flow to help you feel your most strong, flexible, charged, and fluid. Drop into a moving meditation under the metronome of your Ujjayi Breathing in a gorgeous enclosed studio with windows to jungle and sea. Expect to sweat, connect to core, and experience a well rounded yoga flow that awakens every sinew and cell.

Afternoon Somatic and Restorative Yoga Practice is an invitation to all levels of your Being to slow down. Your afternoon sessions are designed to deepen compassion and awareness, nourish your nervous system, and re-awaken neural pathways. These practices are all experienced low to the ground on a mat covered in a yoga blanket, gently and fluidly. Somatic Movement practice feels akin to vinyasa in the linking of breath and movement, yin yoga in the the deliberate slowing down and attuning to deeper held sensations, Yoga Nidra in the dive under the radar of habit and forcing, and myofascial release in the integrated opening of large swaths of fascia that run head to toe.

  • Everyone is welcome on retreat and as with all my retreats, please know everything is optional.  There will typically be an excursion or adventure you can join or opt out.  As for yoga, I offer an energizing vinyasa flow in the morning and a somatic or restorative yoga practice most afternoons. If you are new, you can just join us for the Somatic Track and enjoy nervous system nourishment of gentle restorative afternoon practices, meditation and journaling or choose to be a part of all our offering of all the yoga classes and workshops.  It is completely up to you.

  • It depends on the retreat.  Some retreats are more spacious with just one group excursion to give folks time and space to reflect and let the yoga work its magic and some have more adventures planned for folks who like to keep busy. In our busy lives back home there is so much under the surface we have not had space to explore and feel and move. Think of a retreat as a time and space to arrive by bringing your mind and body together. Though often though people imagine they might want a power packed itinerary from their habituated hustle and grind mindset at home, what I often find on retreat is by day 3 there is a huge nervous system downshift and reset where the retreat begins to weave its magic and guests are hungry for a slower pace and time to be, not do, and realize that less is more.
