About Dominica
Nestled in the West Indies near Martinique and Guadalupe, Dominica (pronounced daa·muh·nee·kuh) is often confused with the Dominican Republic. However, it is its own island in the eastern Caribbean Sea and a part of the Lesser Antilles. This beautiful, mountainous island known as The Nature Isle because of its breathtaking landscapes is high on the lists of hikers and divers around the world and one of the best-kept secrets in the Caribbean. Here breathtaking nature is part of your immersive experience: from restorative hot springs, lush rainforests, and stunning waterfalls, to beautiful beaches, botanical gardens, and the volcanically heated, steam-covered Unesco site, Boiling Lake.
Arriving by air through a steep valley blanketed in trees and cascading waterfalls, landing on Dominica provides a Jurassic Park-like thrill, and first-hand glimpse of why the eastern Caribbean country is called Nature Island and the Caribbean’s Best Kept Secret. Wildlife-rich rainforests, bubbling natural hot springs, varied hiking trails, and an ocean teeming with fluorescent-colored sea life make it one of the most coveted diving regions in the world. Tourists don’t crowd its city center or quiet mountainside villages like other neighboring countries, giving visitors plenty of opportunity to explore at their own pace.
From the commercial capital of Roseau—filled with the buzz of market vendors, bouyon soca and bélé folk music—to lulling fishing villages like Scotts Head that offer up bay views and the fresh catch of the day, there's no shortage of things to do in Dominica whether you want to get active—or slow way down.

The Caribbean’s premier yoga retreat center
Jungle Bay offers the largest retreat facilities in the Caribbean and is custom designed to host Yoga retreats. Jungle Bay is also a wonderful place for healing & nature-based activities.
Like a kid in a candy shop, or a yogi in your own Garden of Eden, Jungle Bay is an edible resort with tropical fruits for you to pick from the vine and eat drenched in sunshine.
A Jungle Bay’s 19-acre property is one of the first of its kind “edible resorts” with over 100 varieties of tropical fruits growing right outside your door. Accommodations are beautiful villas (suites & rooms) each with a raindrop shower, private patio, and surrounded by hummingbirds, two restaurants with fresh & healthy island food (we serve mainly vegetarian & vegan as well as fish and chicken and some meat options for the ones who choose), a health spa for massages and treatments, as well as two swimming pools and a hot tub overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
Our retreat home has been awarded Luxury Living International Best Yoga Retreats, Yoga Journal Best Yoga Retreats, Travelers’s Choice Trip Advisor winner, top ten luxury eco resorts by Forbes, and mentioned in Condé Nast, and National Geographic Traveler’s Great Winter Escapes Stay List Award, and Travel and Leisure’s Favorite 20 Green Hotels.
Enjoy a 30 minute massage at the onsite Bamboo Spa included in your rate from an ocean view treatment suite. Or add on to indulge in detoxifying rubs, massages and aromatherapy, as well as facials, and mani-pedis.
Get juicy: Sip tropical juices and lounge with your toes in the pool between yoga practices. The space around us is a garden of Eden with diverse fruits for you to pick, eat, and enjoy from bananas to soursop to mangos starfruit and passion fruit.
The food at Jungle Bay is incredible. Three meals a day are included in your retreat rate and vegans, vegetarians, and gluten free folks can all be accommodated. Views from the dining room are unmatched.
(Oh how I adore a retreat center with a well appointed yoga studio!) Our enclosed yoga studio has all the props, fans, and windows you need for a transformational practice in paradise.

Caribbean Flavors
Awaken your senses. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in your retreat rate.
Dining on retreat hits different. Float out of practice to a gorgeous sea view dining room, fragrant Caribbean cooking wafting into the air. On retreat you can really savor and slow down. The dining table becomes a social space to gather and open into heartfelt conversation, savor incredible stories, and make new friends that will last a lifetime. Leading retreats over the past 18 years, I have witnessed firsthand how after the inward journey on the mat, the capacity for connection and heart centered conversations around the table expands - joyful meals together after practice are truly a cornerstone of your retreat experience and community.
Jungle Bay’s Calabash Restaurant & Bar is the true heart of our resort. The al fresco venue is the meeting point where everyone comes together to enjoy exquisite menu selections and a stunning view to the sea. The gourmet culinary experience features all organic, fresh local ingredients with an emphasis on Vegan and Vegetarian dishes, in addition to fish, other seafood, and local meat-based recipes. Chef Joanne has been with Jungle Bay for two decades bringing together the freshest farm-to-table and boat-to-plate ingredients for a most memorable Caribbean dining experience.

Feel Don’t Force.
A central tenant of the way I share yoga practice is to open the corridors of sensation through deep inner listening and attunement rather than approaching yoga through force, disembodiment, and a “no pain no gain” mentality. On the mat, I offer challenges for each student, and you might not be able to do everything that is offered in every class. (nor should you be able to do everything easily in a class oriented to your growth). However, I will always offer encouragement and strong footholds to meet each student where they are along the way, as well as a teaching philosophy to feel not force. This means:
Instead of brute force, you use breath.
Instead of haste, you study and apply a system and technique.
Instead of focusing on the final position, you notice the way you get there.
You remember that yoga is a cumulative path. You don’t have to “get” everything today, you have a lifetime to practice.
You allow the wisdom of your practice to flow through you - body mind and spirit - and open wholeheartedly to what arises as you move through your practice, even if it is not what you expected when you set out. There is a deep lesson in every practice if we are open to it.
Ultimately, when practice is taught and approached with the central tenant to feel not force, I find students become empowered lifelong learners of yoga by learning to listen to their own unique experience and from this foundation they develop an unstoppable trust in themselves.
Playful Morning Flow: Start your day with an athletic Vinyasa Flow to help you feel your most strong, flexible, charged, and fluid. Drop into a moving meditation under the metronome of your Ujjayi Breathing in a gorgeous enclosed studio with windows to jungle and sea. Expect to sweat, connect to core, and experience a well rounded yoga flow that awakens every sinew and cell.
Afternoon Somatic and Restorative Yoga Practice is an invitation to all levels of your Being to slow down. Our afternoon sessions are designed to deepen compassion and awareness, nourish your nervous system, and re-awaken neural pathways. These practices are all experienced low to the ground on a mat covered in a yoga blanket, gently and fluidly. Somatic Movement practice feels akin to vinyasa in the linking of breath and movement, yin yoga in the the deliberate slowing down and attuning to deeper held sensations, Yoga Nidra in the dive under the radar of habit and forcing, and myofascial release in the integrated opening of large swaths of fascia that run head to toe.
Don’t wait! Grab your travel friends and start planning!
(And as always, if you want to book a double but don’t have a yoga buddy to join you, I am known for pairing roommates that fast become lifelong friends.)
"Lily provides an invigorating, transformative yoga practice and a holistic approach that invites retreaters to uncover, work through, and renew their life energy. To me, this is what a yoga retreat is all about."
-Liz Lord, Maryland
a note from your guide:
With 18 years experience leading yoga retreats all over the world - from Maui, Hawaii to Positano, Italy to NorCal Wine Country to the Greek Cycladic Islands - one thing I love about retreats is how different settings inspire our yoga practice, tenderize our hearts, and open our minds. Both travel and yoga are catalysts to shift perspective, open our life force where we feel blocked or stagnant, and realign with meaning and direction in our lives.
So often in the hustle and stress of life back home, we disconnect from three threads that support and uplift our wellbeing: connection to nature, connection to creative embodiment, and meaningful connection to community that fosters a profound sense of belonging and joy.
On retreat, I love seeing students faces relax and years of tension and deeply embedded stress melt off folks’ shoulders as they deepen into the magic of retreat and let the magic of yoga wash over them like a healing salve.
Choosing to come on retreat means we must consciously choose to close down some of the pulls on our attention back home - and this allows us to open the door to a deeper relationship to embodiment and spirit through yoga immersion, self inquiry, meditation, compassion, humor, and open-ended time and space in nature to feel it all. The version of self that returns home is inevitably rearranged, awakened, and transformed by the experience of retreating. A retreat is unlike any other form of travel. Retreats are my favorite way to share yoga practice so that it touches all layers of Being most profoundly. Celebrate a newfound connection to the vibrancy within your body, mind, and soul by joining us on a sacred journey inward.
"Lily has an almost prescient way to meet her students 'where they are' with respect to language, modifications and assists. I came away from the retreat feeling stronger in my practice, yet content with where I am and with a clear path to how I might get there."
-Karen McKenna, Maryland

3 Bonus adventures!
EXCURSION 1
Middleham Falls Hike and Trafalgar Falls Trek along the misty mountain trail with lush rainforest vegetation to the tallest waterfall on the island, Middleham Falls. Jaco parrots are occasionally heard or spotted. The end of the hike becomes a little steeper as you scramble your way down to the waterfall pool for a refreshing splash. Did you know that being around waterfalls exposes you to negative ions which are a purification to help counteract stress and strengthen your immune system? Packed lunch is provided ◊ MODERATE ◊ 55 min. driving to start / 3 hours of hiking total
Trafalgar Falls includes twin waterfalls, one flows with thermal spring water and the other with cold water.
excursion 2
World Famous Champagne Snorkel Champagne reef is part of the protected Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve. Underground volcanic activity seeps through the ocean floor, then is cooled by sea waves and rises in a line of bubbles creating a memorable snorkeling experience. Fan coral, turtles and a variety of tropical fish are often sighted ◊ EASY ◊ 15 min. driving each way
ONsite LESSON
Caribbean Herbalism Experience Learn about the ancient herbal remedies of the island’s indigenous peoples. It is no wonder Dominica has such a high number of centenarians when you realize they live off the organic plants grown in the island’s nutrient-rich soil. The fragrant herbs you will encounter during this presentation are grown right here in Jungle Bay’s garden. Make your own tea blends during this interactive ‘wellness experience for the senses’ where you get to see, touch, smell, and taste.
Caribbean herbalism, also known as bush medicine, is a traditional plant-based medicine practice that combines indigenous practices with influences from Africa, Europe, and Asia. Common remedies include ginger for colds and spice (aLso called Cinnamon) for menstrual pains.

Who is this for
You will get the most out of the yoga sessions if you have been practicing yoga for a few years and have some familiarity with Vinyasa yoga. That being said, on retreats in particular, I give lots of private coaching and hands on adjustments to meet you right where you are. Spouses and friends new to yoga are welcome to join us and take the “Somatic Only Track” if vinyasa yoga is intimidating by joining us for the evening restorative and somatic sessions.
As with all my retreats, please know that everything is optional. That being said, since the retreat is sold as a package, there are no refunds for missed sessions, meals, or excursions.
Weather
Dominica’s dry season falls between January and May, with trade winds capping the temperatures at this time. Highs of upper 80’s and lows in the 70’s. This is generally considered to be the best time to visit Dominica. Heat and humidity begin to increase from mid-May, with June seeing the beginning of the rainy season.
With its tropical climate, February is a dry and beautifully warm month in the Dominican Republic. With very few showers and clear blue skies, February is the perfect month to visit this idyllic Caribbean island, but don't forget to pack plenty of sun cream and seek shade between 11am and 3pm.
Pack a bathing suit and cover up, yoga clothes, sunblock and a big hat, lightweight hiking shoes or sports sandals, bug spray, and quick dry light clothes for the tropics.
Check in and Check out Times
Check-in: from 15:00 until 22:00. Check-out: from 06:00 until 11:00
The Sea
Our Jungle Bay infinity swimming pools allow for swimming and relaxation. The resort offers several tours with opportunities to swim in the Caribbean Sea and visit beaches such as in Scott’s Head (8 min. drive) and Champagne Beach (15 min. drive) or local waterfalls. Most beaches in Dominica are stone or natural black sand beaches.
Two of our days we will be heading out on tours to go snorkeling and hike to breathtaking waterfalls.
The Retreat Center
Jungle Bay Dominica is an award-winning, adventure, ecotourism, and wellness boutique retreat resort located on the nature isle of the Caribbean. Freestanding villas are sprinkled throughout the property comprising 30 rooms in total. We will be sharing the resort with other guests alongside our retreat but due to the quiet and secluded nature of the venue, it will still feel intimate for our group.
Wifi
By design Jungle Bay is a retreat from technology so there are no TV's in our rooms and wireless Internet is free, however it is confined to the main lodge. Jungle Bay is intended to enable visitors to escape to pristine nature, rejuvenate their minds and to reconnect with their fellow travelers.
Yoga Mats and Props
Jungle Bay boasts two yoga studios (2,500 sq ft each) & props (yoga mats, blocks, blankets & straps) so there is no need to pack your mat.
What type of hiking shoes should I pack?
I recommend wearing light, breathable shoes for our tropical climate such as trekking, running shoes, comfortable “amphibian” water shoes or hiking sandals with straps (e.g. Keen, Teva). Your shoes may get wet on some of the hikes. Also note that shoes need to have good grip as paths and rocks can be slippery.
Tips and Gratuities
Jungle Bay pools tips which is divided evenly among all staff to encourage team spirit. There is a secure tip box is located at the front desk if you pay cash. Alternatively, you may put an amount on your credit card at the time of checkout.
If you wish to tip an exceptional tour guide/staff/spa attendant, you may do so in cash directly to the individual.
USD or EC is suitable and the amount you choose is at your discretion.
COVID-19
We will provide no refund or other reimbursement to you if you are unable to participate in the Yoga Retreat due to illness such as COVID 19 prior to trip departure or during the Yoga Retreat but reimbursement can typically be sought from most travel insurance policies. (We strongly suggest you purchase Trade Insurance) If you test positive for Covid while on Yoga Retreat, you agree to obtain your own private room to quarantine. For these reasons, you should inquire as to your coverage regarding Covid with your travel and health insurance carriers.
Passports, Visas, Documents
It is your responsibility to obtain all required travel documents including but not limited to Passports, Driver's Licenses, and Immunization Records associated with any destination. For many countries, passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the duration of the trip.
-
I love that you care to ask!
A big part of my decision to partner with our retreat center is the integrity, local ownership, and eco-tourism approach to running their resort.
Jungle Bay is the vision of local Dominican entrepreneur and sustainable development expert Samuel “Sam” Raphael, who shares a life philosophy of environmental conservation and community development through his work.

Cancellation Policy
Your Deposit is Non Refundable and Non Transferrable. Please be sure to read your Retreat Contract for our full Cancellation Policy. Since third party vendors and resorts are paid in advance, we must adhere strictly to this policy to maintain the exceptional standards of our retreats.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is not included and highly recommended. You are responsible for purchasing your own travel insurance policy for the retreat, all corresponding travel expenses, and medical care abroad. If you cancel due to unforeseen illness or personal or family emergency before or during the retreat (including COVID 19, pregnancy, surgery or injury), miss part of the retreat due to travel delays, lose luggage or have a delayed luggage, or require medical care abroad, we cannot reimburse you, however your personal travel insurance policy typically can.
